Confess (1 John 1:9)

When we realize we have been believing something counter to God’s promises, the first thing we need to do is confess that we have believed a lie and lost our belief in the truth. Whether the promises are about who we are or God’s character or plans for us, we must come clean and ask forgiveness for our unbelief in His truth. Regardless of the specific lie, it’s critical to start here.

Renounce (Titus 2:11–15)

Once we have asked for God’s forgiveness, we have to take it a step further and renounce the lie. This means we refuse to live our lives according to that lie any longer. Although Jesus can hear us no matter how we pray, I love to pray confidently aloud that I will no longer act in accordance with Satan’s lies. This step helps us leave behind the lie that has been keeping us bound for so long.
